Panel discussion

Our panel of expert professionals will discuss and answer questions from the delegates on working with Chinese - both the trade and direct consumers, based on their extensive experience in the market.

Serge Dive has recently returned from launching the inaugural Asia Luxury Travel Market in Shanghai where for the first time, Chinese buyers were introduced to the top luxury travel providers from around the world. The feedback from the event will be very interesting and the reaction of the Chinese visitors to ALTM. In a wider context, what type of luxury travel products will Chinese buy? What do they spend their money on?

Jacquie Craig manages tourism business for Bicester Village in Oxfordshire, one of the most popular 'tourist' attraction for Chinese who spend more time shopping in the retail village than at any other 'proper' tourist attraction. She can tell us what Chinese purchase, what is their shopping patterns and how Bicester retains its reputation with the Chinese agents and consumers.

Erwin Van-Cooth is chasing another market - the independent Chinese travellers. By launching a Chinese language interactive website for Chinese FIT, he provides information and products that help Chinese visit Europe independently. What is his business model and how are Chinese reacting to it? Where is the FIT market from China heading?

When it comes to the hotel sector, no one knows more than Rosita Yiu on what the Chinese look for when they come to China and how to provide it to them. Whether its marketing to Chinese travel agents or training hoteliers in providing perfect hospitality to Chinese guests, we look forward to hearing her advice.

From this session, we hope to cover some of the following issues in greater depth, allowing for delegates to ask questions pertaining  to the speakers' experience.

  • How to negotiate with Chinese agents?

  • Finding suitable suppliers/clients in China.

  • Conducting sales and marketing in China.

  • Is the domestic tourism market accessible to foreign players?

  • The changing role of technology and internet in China’s tourism industry.

  • The move to independent travel

  • Best case studies of good hospitality and good marketing

  • The future for luxury travel in China

  • How Chinese shop and what to sell them?
